Winter Warmer 2019 Race Report
The second edition of the clubs winter race was successful held on Sunday 29th December 2019. With over 100 runners entered, race organisers had to make a number of changes to the tough 5 mile off-road course as a result of the persistent rainfall throughout December and the sad loss of the race HQ due to a break in on Christmas Day.
The changes had little impact on the event with a new course record being set by Barry Lloyd of Royal Sutton Coldfield who completed the course in 29:42, in fact the top three finishers this year would have won the race last year having all broke the 30 minute barrier.
The race was well attended by many of the local clubs such as Birchfield Harriers, Snyed Striders and Aldrigde Running Club to name a few – there were also a number of tourist from outside the region in the form of Derwent (Derbyshire) and Hatton Darts making up the 107 runners.
Race winnter Barry Lloyd (RSCAC) was closely followed by a trio of Alrdrige RC runners close behind with Adam Smith finishing 2nd, Toby Oury 3rd and Liam Harrold in 4th. First Lady home was Kelly Butler (Birchfield Harriers) with an impressive run of 33:10, Olivia Harriers (RSCAC) was 2nd Lady and Karen Kietely (Aldridge RC) finished third lady.
West Bromwich Harriers would like to thank all the runners and volunteers for their participation in the event and hope that you will join us next year – save the date! 27th December 2020.
