Derby Runner Midland Counties Cross Country Relays

Aldersley Leisure Village 22nd October 2022.

This year it’s great to report we entered three teams compared to just the one last year with even a reserve runner to boot! So, congratulations to all who took part.

We were lucky with the weather as it had consistently rained the previous days leading up to the event, but the sun shone that day making it a very enjoyable race. We all opted for spikes, but trail shoes would have done the job only leaving the fielded perimeters twice to run through some wooded areas. I’d call the course undulating, but it felt hilly especially on the second of the two-lap course!

We all arrived early and while I was sorting the numbers and running order, I returned to see the gazebo up and the West Bromwich Harriers’ flag proudly flying! I set the table up and before I knew it was full of cakes, it’s great to have the women competing at the same venue!

It felt a real social event chatting to other club runners we know and meeting new people who were glad to see us back in numbers, but Ted (The cockapoo) did get a lot of female attention!

The ‘A’ team Oli (20.36), Ryan (21.00) Ben (22.32) & Daniel (24.33) Finished 18th out of 35 teams.

The ladies, Laura W (32.32), Tara (46.02) & Alex (31.30) with Laura D as super sub finished 22nd out of 25 Teams.

The ‘B’ team Rob (26.56), Chris (28.42), Me (24.15) & Steve (25.27) finished 31st from 35.

There was some confusion on the results page due to a mass start with Alex and Steve running this final leg.

This was great preparation for the cross-country season to come and I hope everyone enjoyed the day and is looking forward to the next XC race proper in Stoke.

Looking forward the Saucony National Cross County Championships has been moved from Leeds to Bolesworth Castle in Chester on the 25th February 2023.

With over 1000 athletes taking part in one race it’s a real experience and hopefully we can get a few of us to represent the club.

So, until the next report don’t forget the pre-race strides and stretch it off after.

Karl.
